Ten Youth Career Commission summer camp students participated in a three day businesses start up simulation at the GS Business Innovation Center downtown. On the final day, they presented their business ideas to a panel of local judges. The judges were blown away by the students. For almost 50 years, St. Paul's Lutheran Church has made a difference for so many in our community. Due to aging membership and slow growth, they now need the community's support. Grice Connect's Reagan Reilly takes a look at their impact and ideas for support to help them continue their mission in our community.

This will be the first college partnership for the Golden Harvest Food Bank, which distributes an estimated 11.8 million meals each year across its 25-county service area. A ribbon cutting and grand opening for the Bobcat Pantry is scheduled for Thursday, June 8, 2023, at 3 p.m. in the academic building lobby on its Swainsboro campus.

The Kiwanis Club of Statesboro recently hosted its second community blood drive event for the year. The event was done in partnership with the American Red Cross. The Kiwanis Club of Statesboro regularly holds two community blood drives annually as a civic outreach to the local community.

The event is free for children ages 3-12 (parent or guardian guided), and the first 50 children to sign up will be eligible for FREE sponsored swimming lessons through Splash in the Boro. This water safety day is being held in memory of 4-year-old Mariah Renee Jackson, who was lost in a tragic swimming pool accident earlier this year.

The $2,500 donation will be added into the “new building” fund for Rebecca’s Cafe, which will be donated to the Statesboro Food Bank expansion occurring later in 2023.  

This brand new community group welcomes all ages to acknowledge and thank vital organizations within our community -- like the Statesboro Police Department, Safe Haven, Fostering Bulloch, and Open Hearts, just to name a few! The goal of the CKC is to create collaborative service projects as a way to show these organizations our gratitude. The club will meet Friday afternoons at 4pm.

Additional male and female volunteers are needed to accommodate all of the children who have applied to attend MDA Camp at Camp Twin Lakes in Rutledge, Georgia, the week of June 24. Please share and apply if you are able to help!
