Georgia DAR State Regent O.B. McCorkle was the keynote speaker at the annual Georgia Day Luncheon recently at Forest Heights Country Club in Statesboro. Hosted by both the Archibald Bulloch Chapter NSDAR of Statesboro, and the Governor David Emmanuel-Adam Brinson Chapter of Swainsboro, thirty-nine attendees enjoyed hearing the story again about the founding of Georgia on February 12, 1733 by General James Oglethorpe.
Following a brief, fun quiz on Georgia history, State Regent McCorkle spoke of two major, on-going projects of the Georgia Society: Martha Berry College, Rome, GA, which DAR supports, and Meadow Garden, Augusta, home of George Walton, one of the three Georgia signers of the Declaration of Independence.
The Georgia DAR proudly owns and maintains Meadow Garden, which is open to the public for tours.
The event was well-attended and lots of fun was had by all. Recognizing Sarah Hines in her 60th anniversary year as a DAR Daughter was a special treat. Two of her three daughters were with her: Nancy Hammond and Cathy Smith. It was a great celebration!
