Due to unprecedented damage to roadways in Bulloch County and safety concerns expressed by local law enforcement and public safety leaders, Bulloch County Schools will remain closed on Thursday and Friday, August 8 & 9.

Severe flooding has led Bulloch County EMA Director Corey Kemp to activate an emergency shelter at Pittman Park United Methodist Church in Statesboro, GA, where over 30 residents were evacuated by boat. Continuous rain has caused localized flooding throughout the county, prompting overnight rescues by local fire departments, law enforcement, and a swift water rescue team.

Georgia Power worked through the night Monday to begin restoring power locally and across the state. At this time, they anticipate restoring power for the majority of local customers by midnight.

The Downtown Live concert scheduled for Thursday, August 8, 2024, featuring The Fantasy Band, is being rescheduled due to the impacts of Tropical Storm Debby.

Bulloch County citizens are waking up to road closures and power outages. As of 5 AM there are over 20 roads closed, some major roads and over 1,600 customers without power. Public Safety officials are urging citizens to shelter in place this morning wile the storm passes and only travel if necessary.

Winds and rain from Tropical Storm Debby caused a tree to fall onto a vehicle Monday evening, trapping the driver inside. Emergency responders worked tirelessly to free the driver amid downed power lines and hazardous conditions. Roads are dangerous. Officials are asking citizens to shelter in place and only travel if absolutely necessary until the storm passes.
