Bulloch begins repairs after Debby; Georgia Army National Guard assisting

Bulloch County has called in the Georgia Army National Guard’s 177th Engineer Battalion to help our community rebuild. They are currently completing road recon routes all over the county, with re-opening roads as a top priority.

At 8am on Thursday, August 8, 2024, Bulloch County Public Safety and Emergency Management announced that the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) will shift its operations to a High Readiness State.

They will now begin monitoring all recovery efforts.

One of the department's priorities is to get the roads back open.

Last night, Bulloch County requested the Georgia Army National Guard’s 177th Engineer Battalion, based in Statesboro, to help with clean-up and rebuilding efforts. They are citizen-soldiers who have left their jobs to help our community, and other counties, rebuild.

They have been tasked to complete route recons of road issues within Bulloch County.

They will be using light motor tactile vehicles, cargo trucks (earth moving equipment), military-grade backhoes and tractors, military Humvees, trucks, vans, and sedans along with Bulloch County Public Works.

The county has also activated outside help for emergency repairs.

As a reminder, if you know firsthand of a blocked or washed out road, PLEASE call Bulloch County Public Works at 912-764-6369 to make a report.

This will help them keep the list current and get the info to crews who are responding as quickly as they safely can.
