The City of Statesboro received their 31st Tree City designation at the meeting on Tuesday. A driving force behind the Tree Board, Henry Clay, was honored for 40 years of service. Retail expansion, nearly 4,000 new homes, and the need to invest in social infrastructures were discussed at this weekend's town hall meeting with Mayor Jonathan McCollar.

City of Statesboro Mayor Jonathan McCollar has been appointed chair of the National League of Cities (NLC) 2024 University Communities Council. McCollar was elected to a one-year term to develop and guide programs among local elected officials from similar communities.

The Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) Watershed Protection Branch will host a meeting to provide information on the technical analysis and modeling assessment of the potential groundwater impacts from the requested groundwater withdrawals for water supply to the Bryan County Mega-Site. Bulloch County has submitted an application to EPD for two Floridan aquifer wells sited in Bulloch County, asking for up to 3.125 million gallons a day (mgd) on an annual average.

Cain Smith was appointed as the Brooklet city attorney at a called city council meeting Wednesday evening.

With the retirement of Ted Wynn as Public Safety and EMA Director on January 31st the Commissioners appointed incoming Public Safety Director Randy Tillman as Interim EMA Director. They are currently advertising the position for a full time EMA Director.
