Feed the Boro food drop

Feed the Boro (FTB) January 1,000 family Food Drop, sponsored by the GS Student Athlete Development Department, is scheduled for this Saturday, January 15th, 2022. The food drop will at 8 am at Statesboro High School, 10 Lee Hill Boulevard.

FTB volunteers will be distributing two tractor trailer loads of food, which will be enough food to feed 1,000 families of four for one week.

A special treat for this drop will be a free bag of books for children provided by the Bulloch Literacy Council.

The Feed the Boro team is proud of the accomplishment of providing over 500,000 meals to our community since conducting the emergency Family Food Drops beginning in 2020.

FTB continues to partner with Second Harvest Food Bank as they plan to host monthly 1,000 family food drops for upcoming dates in 2022.

500,000th meal recipient given food drop and gift card

To celebrate this major accomplishment, Vera Mercer who received the 500,000th meal during their December Food Drop was not only given their week’s worth of groceries, but also a gift card to Food Lion, FTB's presenting sponsor!

“What an exciting accomplishment of serving our community over 500,000 meals! And what an exciting moment as we presented the 500,000th meal to Mrs. Vera! ” said Don Poe, FTB Chair. “If we continue at 1,000 per month, by August 2022 we will cross the 1,000,000 meal distribution mark!”

NEED FOOD? Here is how to get it

We remind our community and those in need to show up early and enter the Statesboro High campus from the backside off Fleming Drive.  You will enter the road that runs between the SHS football stadium and the school building, then proceed into the parking area where the distribution will be held.  The gates on Blue Devil Drive and the entrance off Lee Hill Boulevard will be closed.  The only way to enter will be off Fleming Drive.

Due to COVID, this food drop is considered an Emergency Food Drop.  For this reason, there are NO financial requirement to receive food.  ANYONE in Bulloch County who needs food is encouraged to participate, but again, you are encouraged to get in line early.

Volunteers will end the distribution at 10:00 am or earlier if the food supply runs out.

FTB volunteers will be following strict COVID protocols in making this a contactless delivery.  When citizens reach the distribution area, they will need to have their trunk open and cleaned out. SUV’s will need the rear to be accessible and cleaned out also.

Volunteers will not be allowed to touch nor move items around in your vehicle.  If it is not cleaned out, they will only place what is possible in the space available.  You WILL NOT receive the full distribution if there is not space to put the food items.

Cars will slowly roll through food stations without stopping.  Having your trunk cleaned out is imperative to prevent slowing the distribution down for others in line.

How you can help

Although volunteer spots may be filled for this drop, there is another way you can help.

FTB encourages you to sponsor a meal for an individual or a family.

  • $15 will sponsor a family of three
  • $25 will sponsor a family of five
  • $100 will sponsor 20 people

Thanks to our generous sponsors, it only costs around $5 per person to provide groceries for a week.

Feed the Boro continues to raise funds to help with future food drops and other FTB projects.

Two easy ways to give is through a check made payable to:
