The race for Mayor of Statesboro is officially set, with incumbent Mayor Jonathan McCollar seeking a third term and challenger Raymond L. Harris Sr. qualifying to run against him. Voters will decide the outcome on November 4, 2025.

McCollar highlights progress and stability

Mayor McCollar, who first took office in 2018, pointed to a record of “progress, stability, and community-driven leadership” as the foundation of his re-election campaign.

Under his administration, Statesboro has seen poverty reduced by 30%, significant declines in violent crime, and new job growth across the city. Earlier this year, Statesboro was ranked the 24th best city in the nation to start a small business, a recognition McCollar says reflects the city’s growing economy and its welcoming environment for entrepreneurs.

He has also emphasized investments in young people, community redevelopment, and cultural enrichment through efforts such as restoring older homes, rebuilding parks, and launching the city’s Spring Concert Series.

“Our progress in Statesboro has been made possible because we are a community working together,” McCollar said. “When people put people over politics, we can create jobs, reduce poverty, strengthen safety, and build a city where every resident has the opportunity to live a high-quality life. The story of Statesboro is a story of progress—and we’re just getting started.”

McCollar said his campaign will continue to focus on building a city rooted in opportunity, equity, and unity while keeping Statesboro’s momentum moving forward.

Harris highlights varied work experienced

Challenger Raymond Harris Sr. brings a background that spans military service, law enforcement, business, and information technology. A disabled U.S. Army veteran and former Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office employee, Harris says his leadership skills, adaptability, and technical expertise uniquely prepare him to guide the city.

“As Mayor, I plan to listen to the people of Statesboro,” Harris said. “My campaign is about putting citizens first, restoring accountability, and ensuring that every decision made at City Hall reflects the values of our community. Together, we can build a city that reflects the values and priorities of its people.”

Harris’s career has included key IT roles with major companies such as Kaiser Permanente, J.M. Huber, and Bellsouth, as well as more than a decade of experience in business marketing and web design. He also holds NRA Instructor Certification in multiple disciplines and FEMA emergency management training.

“This election is not about me—it is about the citizens of Statesboro,” Harris added. “Our families, neighborhoods, and businesses deserve a government that respects their hard work, uses their tax dollars wisely, and makes decisions in the open.”

Election Day

The November 4th election will give Statesboro voters a choice between two distinct visions for the city—one rooted in continuing the progress of the past eight years under Mayor McCollar, and the other promising new leadership and a focus on fiscal restraint from Harris.
