Bulloch History: Bulloch County and Archibald Bulloch
Bulloch County was created from land of St. Philip’s Parish. Archibald Bulloch was an active patriot who openly opposed the British Parliament. Archibald fought in two major battles near Savannah: The Battle of the Rice Boats and the Battle of Tybee Island.

Some of us love Folk Art. Some of us love face jugs. The first were probably made in Edgefield County, South Carolina by African slaves. Early white potters who produced these in the hills of north Georgia include Burlon Craig and Lanier Meaders.

Bulloch History: Home Demonstration Clubs in Bulloch County
Three of the best cooks in our area through the years were: Myrtis Akins, Lorine Hendricks and Edna Cason. They all produced fabulous, go to cook books. The best part of the Home Demonstration Club cookbook is the advertising. There were fifteen clubs in Bulloch County.

Join us on this tidbit to learn about one of Statesboro’s most famous citizens. He was inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame in 1990. I had the honor of representing Statesboro for this award presentation. He played rags, blues and gospel.

Bulloch History: Charles Herty
