Many face jugs have been found along the routes of the Underground Railroad, indicating how much they were valued

When the Fabulous Fifty secured for Statesboro the First District Agricultural and Mechanical School in 1906 it forever changed the direction of our town. Join me as we visit old postcards of the school, college and university.

Today we will look at postcards of downtown Statesboro from the early 1900’s. Some of these were used for the wall wraps in the lobby of City Hall. See if you recognized the Minkovitz Building that was built by Raif Simmons.

Did you know that Sea Island Cotton is long staple cotton and is some of the best cotton grown? In 1903, Statesboro was the biggest inland market for Sea Island Cotton in the world.

Bulloch County was created from land of St. Philip’s Parish. Archibald Bulloch was an active patriot who openly opposed the British Parliament. Archibald fought in two major battles near Savannah: The Battle of the Rice Boats and the Battle of Tybee Island.

Some of us love Folk Art. Some of us love face jugs. The first were probably made in Edgefield County, South Carolina by African slaves. Early white potters who produced these in the hills of north Georgia include Burlon Craig and Lanier Meaders.
