Bulloch County is under a Tropical Storm Warning through Thursday. Schools and businesses are closing on Wednesday. Read story below for more.

The Bulloch County Agricultural Complex is offering to house horses and some livestock at their facility for free as Idalia passes through the area. They also will allow owners to stay on site in their RVs for free as well.

Due to the expected impact of Hurricane Idalia, Bulloch County Schools will be closed on Wednesday, Aug. 30, and Thursday, Aug. 31, for all students and staff. All aftercare services that are held in school buildings will be suspended as well for these days, as well as all athletics and extracurricular activities.

The State of Emergency went into effect upon the governor's signature today, August 29, and will expire at 11:59pm on Friday, September 8, 2023.

Before severe weather strikes, customers are encouraged to become familiar with Georgia Power’s Storm Center and Outage Map at www.GeorgiaPower.com/Storm. This makes tracking and reporting outage information easy. To help its customers prepare and to provide more information on restoration efforts, the company has also developed a series of storm videos and tips for before, during, and after a storm. Beginning Tuesday evening through Thursday, please monitor communications from the school district and local media for announcements about any possible changes to school schedules. The school district's next update will be by 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 29.

Tropical Storm Idalia is currently forecast to make landfall as a Category 3 hurricane along the Florida Big Bend on Wednesday morning. Meteorologists expect it will then weaken to a Category 1 hurricane as the center moves into far southeast Georgia later on Wednesday.
