The 4th Annual Pull for Kids Sporting Clays Tournament, hosted by the Bank of Newington, is set to take place this Saturday, June 1. The shotgun start is at 8:30am at Bay Gall Sporting Clays in Garfield. Registration opens at 7:30am on site.

Presented by the Cotton Rose School of Dance and the Averitt Center for the Arts, dancers will tell the story of Peter Pan on June 1 and 2 on the Emma Kelly stage.

Gage Bunch has had the highest grade point average in his class since the 8th grade. He achieved his goal of being the class valedictorian and has already completed four semesters of college credit as a dual-enrolled student. He has fond memories of his high school career and encourages other students to be kind to each other and to their teachers.

The Murph Challenge consists of a one mile run, 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 air squats, and another mile run. It was named in honor of Lieutenant Michael Murphy, who lost his life serving in Afghanistan.

All proceeds will go to the Carter Payne Fund, which assists families in the Tormenta FC Academy with expenses such as uniforms, team fees and other associated costs

Though she faced difficulties and isolation as an older student, Harkins says she was motivated to keep going by her kids, who watched her persevere for years to reach this goal. Sticking with it for 14 years, she is now the first woman on her mother's side of the family to earn a college degree.
