Due to additional bridge approach work needed, the 20-day closure reference below for Chatham Parkway will be extended to a 29-day closure. The Chatham Parkway Bridge is expected to be reopened to traffic on or before July 19.

The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) implemented a 20 day closure of Chatham Parkway bridge at Interstate 16 that started at 9 p.m. on  Friday, June 20.

During the 29 day complete Chatham Parkway bridge closure period, all ramps on and off I-16 will remain open, except as noted below.
(See Map 1 – Detour).

During the closure, traffic will be impacted as follows:

  • I-16 eastbound (EB) off-ramp traffic will only be able to turn south onto Chatham Parkway
  • Northbound (NB) Chatham Parkway traffic approaching I-16 will only be able to turn right onto I-16 EB
  • I-16 westbound (WB) off-ramp traffic will only be able to turn north onto Chatham Parkway
  • Southbound (SB) Chatham Parkway traffic approaching I-16 will only be able to turn right onto I-16 WB

Not all navigation applications may reflect the detour at the time of the closure, and motorists are advised to follow detour signage and posted speed limits.

Following the closure, the Chatham Parkway bridge over I-16 will have four travel lanes, with two in each direction. There will be lane closures, primarily during the nighttime, for the duration of the ongoing work, which is expected to last several weeks.

Advisory: Exact time may change due to weather conditions. There may be intermittent traffic pacing and lane and ramp closures that occur within the work zone in addition to this notice. Motorists are advised to expect delays, exercise caution, reduce their speed while traveling through work zones, stay alert, and watch for workers. Before heading out, get real-time information on work status and traffic conditions. Call 511, visit 511ga.org, or download the Georgia 511 app.
