The race was the idea of chapter member John Wood, and in its first year, raised more than $5,000 for the Statesboro Fire Department.

October marks the start of Breast Cancer Education and Awareness Month, and to kick off the observance, the Zeta Tau Alpha Statesboro Alumnae Chapter will "Pink Out the Fountain" in downtown Metter on September 26 and downtown Statesboro on September 30th. They invite survivors, patients, and families to participate in a community-wide event to honor and raise awareness for breast cancer. They will also host a survivor's luncheon on September 29 at the Zeta house.
