The Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) has issued a warning to citizens about a new text message scam. The scam message claims to be from the Georgia State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), which does not exist, and urges recipients to pay an "outstanding traffic ticket" by a certain date or risk having their license suspended.

With additional threats such as the suspension of vehicle registration, additional fees, or prosecution, the text also includes a link to pay in an attempt to steal not only your money but also your personal information, including your driver’s license details.

This is a scam. DDS says its team members will never contact the public via text to request money or personal information.

If you’ve received a message like this one, do not click the link or respond. Simply delete the message and block the number.

You can verify the status of your driver’s license any time by visiting the official DDS website at https://dds.drives.ga.gov/_/.
