Public works professionals and public servants of the community rolled into Bulloch County's third annual Touch A Truck, showcasing the heavy machinery and automobiles they operate on a daily basis to keep the community running safely.

Members of the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office, Georgia State Patrol, Bulloch County Fire Department, Bulloch County Emergency Medical Service, Bulloch County Public Works, and the Bulloch County Animal Control packed the event with their own stations for people to learn about what they do for the community.

All of these public work members and public servants interacted with everyone who approached their station, teaching attendees of all ages about the inner workings of their jobs, while allowing everyone the opportunity to get hands-on with all of their operating equipment.

Dal Cannady, communications director for the Bulloch County Board of Commissioners, played a pivotal role in organizing Touch A Truck, seeking to create an event where a closer connection grows between the community and the individuals who provide essential services.

“The idea is to get the community out, especially families, small kids, and give them the chance to see all the equipment up close and personal, but also to talk to the people behind the equipment every day," Cannady said. "I think it's good to put people in touch with the folks that are on the front line of public safety and public works, the ones that you know are going to come out to their emergency or the ones that help keep their road clear, in case of a storm ... it personalizes the services that we offer.”
