The Future Georgia Educator program is a statewide initiative sponsored by the Georgia Department of Education. It highlights graduating seniors who plan to major in education. It is meant to celebrate education as a career choice and encourage talented young people to help fill the needs of Georgia's school systems. 

Eight radiologic technology senior students at Ogeechee Technical College (OTC) were honored in late April. The recipients included Lacey Crosby, Reid Hadden, Amanda Jacobs, Komlanvi Komlan, Sydney Lewis, Alex Malko, Hillary Robinson, and Maliah Thornton.

The scholarships recognize deserving and outstanding students who are pursuing a degree in agriculture or an ag-related degree at a college in the University System of Georgia, Berry College or Emmanuel College.

Students who have earned their associates degrees, diplomas, technical certificates of credit, and Georgia High School Equivalency diplomas were all recognized throughout the ceremony.

A native of the Bronx, New York, DeMills earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology from Bethune-Cookman.

The University System of Georgia is holding the line on tuition despite a $66 million budget cut the General Assembly imposed in March. The system’s Board of Regents voted unanimously Tuesday in favor of a $3.18 billion fiscal 2024 operating budget with no increase in tuition for the sixth time in the last eight years at 25 of the system’s 26 institutions.

Funding for this project was included in the Fiscal Year 2024 state budget with $1.69 million in bond funding that will go toward renovating office, classroom and lab space on the Armstrong Campus..

The ceremonies were held at the Allen E. Paulson Stadium in Statesboro on May 9, 10 and 11, and at the EnMarket Arena on May 13.
