Nearly 300 students were honored in front of an energy-filled audience of faculty, staff, family members, friends, and local dignitaries at Ogeechee Technical College's Spring Commencement held last week.

“I would like to extend my personal congratulations to our graduating class. Graduates, you have accepted the challenge of learning something new, and you should be rewarded, and that is why we are here tonight,” said OTC president, Lori Durden. “This is certainly a milestone in your life, something you will remember forever and I am honored to be a part of it.”

The commencement address, given by 2012 echocardiography program graduate Bryan Realiza, was a reminder to all students to persevere no matter the circumstances.

“The advice I offer you today is that no matter what obstacles you encounter, never let your history or your current situation define you. Always utilize the resources that are available to you,” said Realiza. “Most importantly, never give up on your dreams, always believe in yourself, and remember that your destiny is what you make it.”

The ceremony concluded in celebration with glow sticks, music, balloons and applause.

According to data from assistant vice president for student affairs, Christy Rikard, there were approximately 850 students eligible to graduate this spring.
