Compassion Christian Church adds Wednesday worship service; “At the Movies” series returns

Compassion Christian Church in Statesboro brings back its beloved summer series At The Movies—a creative blend of film, faith, and fellowship—while launching a new midweek worship service to help more people connect with God, community, and a greater purpose.

This summer, Compassion Christian Church in Statesboro is inviting the community to a Sunday morning worship experience at a new time.

Beginning on July 9, Compassion will now offer a Wednesday evening service that starts at 6:45pm. Through this new opportunity, the church is hoping to create space for everyone to connect with God and their community.

“Not everyone can attend church on Sundays, so I love that we’re offering a midweek option,” church member Carmel Cowart said, noting how helpful it can be for those who work weekends or have other obligations.

The summer sermon series on both Sunday (9am and 11am) and Wednesday (6:45pm) services will feature the church's popular 'At the Movies' program. The series will run through August 3 and begins with a true epic: The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. Expect action, inspiration, and deeper meaning as familiar film moments are paired with powerful Biblical truths.

At each service, attendees will enter a transformed church space, with free popcorn in hand. Behind all the fun, there’s a clear intention to connect stories on screen with the ultimate story of God’s love and purpose for each life.

“As a performing arts educator, I love that our church is using the medium of film as a ministry tool,” said Cowart. “It’s a unique and effective way to connect with people who may not otherwise feel very engaged in a traditional church service."

For many, At The Movies is more than just a clever series—it’s a reminder that every person plays a part in God’s grand story. Movies are fundamentally about storytelling, and every person connects with a good story.

Excitement for the summer series is increasing throughout the congregation.

Jana Folker Ashe shared, “I’m so excited that At The Movies is returning! I loved every Sunday of it last year. It definitely brought some lessons and movies to life!” Wendy Pickett Starling Fletcher added, “I love At The Movies! They are modern-day parables that help us understand the Biblical principle. And I'm so excited about Wednesdays; can't wait to see everyone there!”

With 'At The Movies' returning and Wednesday nights becoming a regular part of the weekly schedule, Compassion Christian Church makes one thing clear: whether it's a Sunday morning or a midweek evening, there's a place for you to belong, grow, and be inspired.

So pack your sense of adventure, gather your favorite people, and prepare for a summer filled with stories—where popcorn meets purpose and every twist in the plot hints at something greater.
