Drew Hart and Tyler Hunter, both Bulloch County natives, have been selected to receive scholarships from the Georgia Foundation for Agriculture (GFA). Hart and Hunter are two of 10 rising college juniors or seniors statewide selected to each receive a $2,000 scholarship.

The scholarships recognize deserving and outstanding students who are pursuing a degree in agriculture or an ag-related degree at a college in the University System of Georgia, Berry College or Emmanuel College.

“The Georgia Foundation for Agriculture is committed to supporting Georgia’s next generation of agricultural leaders. Our 2023-24 scholarship recipients are pursuing various careers in agriculture,” said GFA Board Chairman and GFB President Tom McCall. “Georgia Farm Bureau is proud to support the foundation’s efforts. There are new, fascinating specialties in agriculture that our scholarship recipients are committing to study. We look forward to following these deserving students and their agricultural careers.”

Hart, the son of Andy and Cindi Hart of Brooklet, is a rising senior at the University of Georgia College of Agricultural & Environmental Sciences (CAES) where he is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in agricultural engineering.

He is a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity, UGA Farm Bureau Young Farmers & Ranchers and UGA Aviation Club. Hart is also a student ambassador for the UGA College of Engineering and is a member of the American Society of Agricultural & Biological Engineers.

Hart developed an interest in mechanical systems growing up around farm equipment on his family’s cotton farm and later while working at a cotton gin. Last summer Hart interned at McCleskey Saw & Machine, a machine shop that specializes in cotton gin repair, maintenance, and construction in Bronwood, Ga.

Hunter, the son of John and Erin Hunter of Brooklet, is a rising senior at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC) where he is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in animal science.

As an ABAC student, Hunter is an active member of the Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity and the ABAC Cattlemen’s Association. He was the 2021 Georgia FFA Proficiency Winner in Beef Production and a 2021 finalist for the National FFA Beef Production Proficiency award.

Hunter has helped his grandfather with his cattle herd since 2013 and has worked on the Bar A Ranch in Nashville, Ga., throughout college. He has a small herd of Hereford cattle started from the first Hereford he showed through FFA in 2016. He attends Tifton First Baptist Church.

The Georgia Foundation for Agriculture scholarships recognize deserving and outstanding students pursuing an agriculture or ag-related degree at an eligible technical college (such as welding, diesel mechanics, vet tech) or college in the University System of Georgia, Berry College or Emmanuel College. Instructions for applying for the 2024 GFA scholarships will be posted on the GFA website www.gafoundationag.org this fall.
