The Statesboro Food Bank has announced that the demand for food in the city has been high and that donations have been slower this time of year. In addition, the organization says that Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia has had low availability on much-needed items that the food bank would normally purchase.

Amidst the high demand, the Statesboro Food Bank is asking that local groups — business, churches, civic clubs, university organizations, etc. — consider collecting food items or hosting a food drive in support of the food bank.

The Statesboro Food Bank says that any food donated will be appreciated, but some of the items that are needed the most are:

  • Peanut butter
  • Canned fruit
  • Oatmeal
  • Grits
  • Cereal
  • Canned meat
  • Ramen noodles
  • Canned vegetables (corn and green beans are the only items the food bank currently has)
  • Canned pasta (spaghetti, ravioli)

The Statesboro Food Bank will be accepting donations every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, between the hours of 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Residents also have the option of contacting the food bank to arrange a pickup. The food bank is located in the old Julia P. Bryant Elementary building at 400 Donnie Simmons Way. Please call (912) 489-3663 or email [email protected] to arrange a pickup.
