The Southeast Bulloch Yellow Jackets rolled over the Islands Sharks 41-7 on Friday evening in Savannah.

First Quarter

The Yellow Jackets looked to establish their run offense early, despite the fact that Islands stacked the box to counter it. Southeast Bulloch started their first drive with three runs that resulted in first downs from junior quarterback Colton Zito, senior receiver Tyrone Mcgee and senior running back Jayden Murphy.

After those runs, Zito completed a pass to Mcgee to get the Yellow Jackets in the redzone. Murphy finished the drive with a touchdown from a run play. The extra kick was good that made the score 7-0.

Islands didn’t find much success as their opponents in their first drive. They felt immediate pressure from SEB’s defense with their initial run play being stuffed.

The Sharks were locked up for the rest of their first drive, being held to a three and out.

SEB had a quick score from Murphy, who broke out for a 69 yard run, but it was erased by a holding penalty. He would get another chance and struck true afterwards with a 25 yard rush for another touchdown. The extra point attempt was successful and made the score 14-0.

Islands, now 14 points in the hole, still couldn’t get their offense going, this time being met by Southeast Bulloch’s senior defensive lineman Kameron Miller who blew up their run attempt. Another three and out followed the defensive play.

The Yellow Jackets on this drive didn’t have their offense on the field for more than forty five seconds. Senior running back Colby Smith broke out for a run that resulted in yet another SEB touchdown. Another successful extra point kick made the score 21-0 with SEB leading.

With three drives and three scores, it would be an understatement to say that the Yellow Jackets started the game on fire.

Second Quarter

In the second quarter, junior quarterback Aaden Peterson subbed in at quarterback and made quick work of the Sharks defense. He started the drive with a nine yard run and soon after completed a 15 yard pitch to junior tight end Brant Horst.

Afterwards Murphy put together a 14 yard run to get the Yellow Jackets inside Islands’ ten yard line. He punched the football in the endzone right after for his third touchdown of the night. The kick after the play was good that made the score 28-0 in SEB’s favor.

The Sharks seemed still be suffering from their offensive woes until they elected to go for it on fourth down. They went for a fake punt and a pass from senior Ethan McKinney to junior tight end Michael Cooler was completed for 18 yards and a first down.

Senior running back Zyon Patrick also joined in on the offensive surge from the Sharks with a 8 yard run. Soon after junior quarterback Mason Mclaughlin completed a 25 yard pass to put the sharks in scoring position on the three yard line.

After a solid drive Mclaughlin ended it with a thrown interception to Peterson who took it to the house for a 98 yard pick-six. The extra point was missed and the score was now 34-0 going into halftime.

Third Quarter

After the half, the Yellow Jackets kicked off to the Sharks but senior Joseph Krutch fumbled the football. Mcgee picked it up and got the ball back for SEB.

On their first play of offense for the drive, Murphy broke out for yet again another running touchdown. The kick after the play was good, making the score 41-0.

With the score being so one sided, there was a running clock rule that was enforced.

Islands came out after the SEB score and converted on a controversial fourth down play. Soon after, the Sharks were hit with a penalty that sent them back and both head coaches from each team wanted an explanation from the referees for the recent calls.

Islands didn’t do much with their opportunity ending their quarter with a turnover on downs.

Fourth Quarter

In the fourth quarter, not much happened except for some clock milking up until Islands got another chance to score. In a last second effort Islands dropped back for a pass and completed one to Cooler who broke out for long touchdown. The kick afterwards was good and made the score 41-7 with SEB winning the game.
