Hello SENIORS!!  I hope you are having a terrific week!  If you are not, then let's change that with a visit to the Statesboro Family YMCA, located at 409 Clairborne Avenue.  Hannah Beggs will transform any gloomy day into the brightest day you can imagine!!

What a TREAT it was visiting the Statesboro Family YMCA and meeting the fabulous team of enthusiastic’ Fun and Goal’  oriented individuals. Everyone made it their mission to welcome and make me feel at home, "Smiles and Helping Hands abound!“

The Statesboro Family YMCA opened in October 2017. It’s Executive Branch Director Hannah Beggs says, “I think it's important that we work together to make the city of Statesboro the best that it can be for the entire community.”

Hannah grew up in Lincolnton, Georgia adopted Statesboro as her home, while attending Georgia Southern studying exercise science. She is married to Ben Beggs, has two dogs and in her free time, enjoys lifting weights, reading, baking, and playing the ukulele.

In 2017 she started at the Statesboro YMCA teaching group fitness. In 2020 promoted to Executive Branch Director and is passionate about the community. She sees Statesboro Family YMCA as a community hub that welcomes everyone and tries to make sure that it has programs that fit all ages 0-99.

She is a member of The Advisory Board for Exercise Science, has been in Dancing with the Statesboro Stars in 2021 and 2022. Hannah won 20 under 40 Leadership award in 2022 with the Statesboro Herald, loves to meet others and establish partnerships with the community alongside the YMCA .

Another important Statesboro Family YMCA member is Amber Robenolt, Membership Coordinator. Beginning with the YMCA 1 year ago, she has worked "creating a healthy spirit, mind and body" for our community with many wonderful programs and services .

Amber is a GSU grad with a public relations degree. She narrowed in on the non-profit sector early in her career and helped raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for American Cancer Society in the South Georgia area.  She returned to work after starting a family with her husband Daniel Todd and her son Drake.

Amber is thrilled to use her talents and years of volunteer coordination, community management and fundraising experience with the Statesboro Family YMCA.  She loves giving people of all ages, backgrounds and walks of life an opportunity to reach their FULL potential.

Lots to offer Seniors

While touring the facility on Clairborne Avenue, the old Sally Z school building, Hannah and Amber showed me 16 classrooms designated for Fitness, Yoga, computer classes, cell phone 101, arts, crafts, strength and balance training and a total of 30 plus fitness & well programs at different levels.

OH did I mention DONUTS after chair yoga OKAY YES… an optional treat. 🙂

The majority of people I saw at the facility were mature adults that were serious about FITNESS and being WELL!  Both Hannah and Amber told me they have a FREE cardiac rehab and FREE cancer #livestrong programs available with a doctor's referral and a membership is NOT necessary. The gym is open 24 hours and offers specialized programs for personal training partnering with Georgia Southern (in season) .

Another FUN treat is the Garden Community.  FREE to all members.

While visiting the YMCA I spoke with two members. Jody Woodcock,a native Statesboro resident, who said "I was very much an introvert only going out for necessities. Now I am active with fitness programs and have made many new relationships at Y and am very happy. . It is the best decision ever!”

Another Senior member said she relocated to Statesboro, joined the YMCA, developed and met new friends quickly. She enjoys the health and fitness classes, loves the luncheons and programs they offer.
