Join the Statesboro Village Builders for a drop-in community event on Saturday, September, 10th, from 1-4pm at the Honey Bowen Building on Max Lockwood Dr. The purpose of the event is to engage the community in open dialogue about the resources needed to help Statesboro's children become their best selves.
Community members, local non-profits, civic organizations, and churches are invited to attend the event and learn how they can support or participate in the Village Builders Initiative.
For more information on the drop-in or on how you can get involved with the initiative, call 912-764-0616 or email [email protected].
More on the Village Builders Initiative
Statesboro Village Builders Initiative is a new initiative conceived by the City of Statesboro’s Youth Commission in collaboration with community stakeholders. The goal for the Statesboro Village Builders is to be a community-wide youth development program that utilizes mentorship, workforce development, and support services to address the needs of youth in at-risk situations.
As of 2019, nearly 42% of Statesboro residents lived below the federal poverty line. Children make up much of the City’s impoverished population. These conditions are creating generational poverty cycles that affect educational outcomes, community workforce development, and increased interaction with the criminal justice system. The Statesboro Village Builders hope to change that.
Five target areas in the City have been identified as having the largest populations of at-risk children. The areas, or “villages” will be the initial focus of the program.
Program Coordinator needed
In August 2022, the Statesboro City Council approved a Program Coordinator job position to run the newly established Statesboro Village Builders Initiative.
The City is currently accepting applications for this position through September 30. To learn more or apply, visit www.statesboroga.gov/jobs.
Once this position is filled, the initiative will begin to take shape and officially welcome children into the “villages” around the city.
