The Statesboro Blue Devils will be hosting the Tattnall County Warriors on Saturday, December 2, 2023. This will be the second time this season that these two will show down.

In the first meeting of this season, the Blue Devils swept in close games.  The Blue Devils won 46-38 and the Lady Blue Devils won 61-56. Tattnall has a history of being a scrappy, persistent team. When Statesboro played them the first time, both teams seemed to get a little complacent which allowed both Tattnall teams to get back within 10 point range on the Blue Devils.

Looking Forward to the Games:

Lady Blue Devils

When they last played the Warriors, the Blue Devils seemed to be sporadic in their energy they exuded. The Lady warriors are not the type to go quietly and Saturday’s game will be no different. Head coach, Marty Holder wants his team to step on the gas and not let up this go round.

“Tattnall is a hard and scrappy team,” said Holder. “Freeman does a really good job over there with his girls, so I think it’s going to be another competitive game, but I just hope that we keep the same intensity for four quarters and not just a half this time.”

Blue Devils

The Boys varsity squad is deeper this year than they were last year when they faced Tattnall. In the last matchup, the Blue Devils won 46-44. When the Blue Devils played the Warriors earlier this season, defensively they played well holding the Warriors 28-9 in the first quarter.  Head coach Keith LeGree siad in the second half that changed because the Devils seemed to run out of gas.

“This time against Tattnall I want to switch it up and get up in them a little bit," said LeGree. “I think we are deeper than them and when we put pressure on them, it gives us an opportunity to play everybody.”

Statesboro and Tattnall have a long history of playing each other over the years. Last season, Statesboro beat Tattnall winning both sets of contests by small margins. All four Statesboro teams play tomorrow. The JV girls will play at 3:00 p.m., followed by the JV boys at 4:30. Then the Varsity girls will take the court at 6, and the varsity boys at 7:30 p.m. tickets are available on GoFan. If you can't attend in person, the games will be live on the NFHS network. The Grice Connect Sports team will keep you up to date with scores throughout the night.
