GS men’s basketball signs transfer forward Andres Burney

Georgia Southern men’s basketball just got a major boost as transfer forward Andres Burney joins the 2025-26 squad, bringing experience, size, and a strong scoring résumé to the Eagles' roster.

Men's basketball continues to round out its 2025-26 roster, this time adding Georgetown College (NAIA) transfer Andres Burney to the team.

Burney, who played at Jacksonville State in 2023-24 before spending a year at GC, joins the Eagles after averaging 10.4 points and 5.5 rebounds with the Tigers.

The Brundidge, Ala. native had 19 games in double figures, scoring 20+ four times, including a season-best 24 twice during the year. He had double digit rebounds three times, twice grabbing 14 boards in a game.

In 2023-24, Burney played at the Division I level at Jacksonville State, averaging 5.6 points and 3.5 rebounds in his first DI action. He shot 57.9 percent (62-of-107) from the field during the season.

He had five games with 10 or more points with the Gamecocks, notching a season-best 13 at Tarleton State on Dec. 18. His lone double-digit rebounding effort came in the next game at Little Rock on Dec. 21.

He spent his first two seasons at Shelton State at the JuCo level, where he was the All-ACCC North Division Player of the Year and also selected to ACCC All-Region 22 First Team, All-ACCC North Division First Team and ACCC All-Tournament Team after his team won the ACCC North Division Regular Season and NJCAA D1 South District Championships.

Burney competed in the 2022-23 season at Eastern Florida State, where he averaged 17.4 points and 9.7 rebounds. He playd at Pike County HS during his high school days.
