WOW!! What a Night!!

A Saturday night on the Blue Mile, at the enclosed (and air conditioned!) Statesboro Visitors Center Farmers Market building made this FUNdraiser just PERFECT!

The live band (The Ripleys) playing some of your favorites: Earth Wind & Fire - September, Journey - Don't Stop Believin', and Hall & Oates - Rich Girl got the adrenaline pumping and dancing beginning. You asked! They delivered!

Approximately 150 tickets were sold. The guests arrived anxiously awaiting a GREAT TIME! About 50% of the attendees were attired in their ‘favorite decade’ and ready to enjoy their evening. There were lots of friendly smiles, and people were engaging, moving around the dance floor, and enjoying themselves.

Shay Paulk, Senior Companion Program Coordinator said “DANCE THRU THE Decades was a tremendous success while The Ripleys were grooving and Dolan's was serving, it was quite the party.”

The buffet presentation by Dolan's BBQ was outstanding as usual. BBQ sliders, chicken and beef, potato salad, pasta salad, pimento cheese, homemade potato chips, fried pork rinds, lemonade and water ... all YUMMMMY!! Plus a cash bar was available for the dancers' pleasure.

Mr. Bobby Waters made an unexpected appearance in his ‘1959 Ford Galaxie Skyliner.’  This was IDEAL for picture taking for the guests! What a Memory Photo!

Special guest Dal Cannady from WTOC was emcee, and a variety of Silent Auction donations from the community were available (valued from $25-$1200) to the highest bidder. What fun!! Lots to do and keep you fascinated!!

“It was great to see the community come together and support the Senior Companion Program,” said Deb Blackburn, Senior Companion Program Director.

Lillian Akers Brown, committee member, said “It was a successful, fun event. Check out the pictures! They are amazing!”

Nancy Wilson, Chair for this fundraiser said, “This isn't your Grandmother's party, but you can bring her if you like. Everyone seemed to enjoy the cool comfort of the venue. There was plenty of room for comfortable seating and still allowed a large area to dance. The Photo Booth by Boro Balloons was a big hit. The music and food were outstanding!”

Georgia Southern's Center for Social Gerontology within the Department of Sociology and Anthropology's Shay Paulk summed it up nicely. “Thanks to everyone who attended and supported us. We were able to raise hundreds of dollars and surpass our fundraising GOAL.”
