The Lodge at Bethany celebrates 5th Annual Memorial Day Picnic honoring heroes and community

On May 23rd, 2025, The Lodge at Bethany hosted its 5th Annual Memorial Day Picnic, bringing together nearly 100 residents, families, and community members for a heartfelt day of remembrance, gratitude, and celebration.

On May 23rd, 2025, The Lodge at Bethany joyfully observed its 5th Annual Memorial Day picnic. It was a day filled with family, food, and fellowship, all in honor of our fallen soldiers for their service, sacrifice, and love of country that grants us our freedom!

A growing tradition of remembrance, this year nearly 100 residents, family members, and guests were invited and attended for a heartwarming day of celebration, coming together to honor our heroes and celebrate the strength of community. This year’s picnic was held indoors. A patriotic photo backdrop, complete with red, white, and blue decorations, made for perfect picture-taking and lasting memories.

Community support and ‘Grilling Legends’ John Lane from GB Group/Statesboro Bank took the lead in organizing the event for the 3rd year in a row. Typically known for their Father’s Day grilling, it was a hit for Memorial Day, too! Bethany offers a special thank you to Bill and Beth Aiken, who have faithfully grilled for them over the past four Memorial Days, with help from the ever-reliable Mr. Ellis Wood.

To top it all off, Wavee Shavee Ice brought the fun with their snow cone station, offering refreshing, colorful treats that were a hit for all ages. Watermelon was also served -- a crowd pleaser!

Entertainment was provided by Russell Jones (son of resident Lois Jones) and Gary Donaldson, who performed beloved American songs, creating an atmosphere of unity and patriotic spirit.

Regina Bell, Executive Director, shared, “It's always an honor to host our annual Memorial Day picnic for our residents' families and staff so they can enjoy time of fellowship while still remembering the great sacrifice that was made for our freedom. Thank you to all who joined us at The Lodge at Bethany. You made it unforgettable!"
