Westwood Nursing and Rehab Center in Statesboro came alive with joy, laughter, and heartfelt appreciation as it celebrated National Nursing Home Week from May 12-16, 2025. The purpose of this week-long celebration was to honor and uplift the incredible residents and dedicated staff who make Westwood a true community of care and compassion.
Led by Activities Director Tamara (Tammy) Kaigler and Assistant Director Tonya Michelle Hylow, each day featured themed activities designed to bring a connection and sense of recognition to everyone involved.
“I do games, we talk, and have fun with all the residents,” shared Hylow. “But this week, we make it extra special. I love the relationships I have with the residents; it is the best part of my job.”
The extra special activities included:
- Monday – Hawaiian Day, residents and staff dressed in colorful leis and island decorations to kick off the week.Tasty food and delicacies were served.
- Tuesday – Tattoos and Tacos, hosted by Bridge Hospice and led by Jackie Cox, Community Liaison/Navy Veteran. Jackie brought an array of fun press-on tattoos for residents and staff and personalized taco cups made to order.
- Wednesday – Bingo Day hosted by Regency Hospice -- a crowd favorite with friendly competition alongside popcorn and treats.
- Thursday – Car Wash with Bubbles, bringing suds, smiles, and music as staff and volunteers offered a light-hearted car wash experience filled with fun.
- Friday – Cake and Ice Cream Celebration, offering a sweet finale featuring sweets and karaoke to thank everyone for their hard work and dedication.
Throughout the week, residents and staff enjoyed every moment as a reflection of the deep gratitude, joy, and compassion that define life at Westwood.
