Senior Moment | CrossRoads Community Church-Young at Heart

Grice Connect's Senior Reporter Michele LeBlanc headed out to see what all the talk around town about the CrossRoads Community Church Young at Heart luncheon is about. WELL WELL WELL...Michele discovered delicious fried chicken and wonderful, welcoming seniors. She found one more reason for Seniors to get out and get active!

young-at-heartWELL WELL WELL... Let me share a sweet secret with you about a GREAT and WONDERFUL time I experienced at ‘Young at Heart’ at CrossRoads Community Church at 23923 HWY 80E, Statesboro, GA 30461.

Accepting the invitation to this special event was pure JOY!!

Their slogan:

"Welcome to CrossRoads: Loving God, Loving people."

was definitely exemplified by the guests at ‘Young at Heart’. Mark Willis, who leads the Students Ministry, told me they put this slogan on ALL bulletins, phone messages, door signs, and their website. He said, "We want to claim everyone, the door is always open,” and YES indeed it was.

You will never ‘MEET A STRANGER’ at CrossRoads Community Church. Friendly smiles, handshakes, and hugs are ALL part of their greeting. I was directed to a table and introduced to the enormous buffet of GREAT home cooking and the traditional fried chicken supplied by the church. YUMMY!!!

A real example of true Southern Hospitality!! Not to mention the array of covered dishes like mac & cheese, potato salad, deviled eggs, beans, mac salads, and let me NOT exclude more delicious and amazing desserts like banana pudding, pound cake, brownies…ENOUGH ALREADY! As my dear late husband would say, “If you left hungry, shame on you!"

NOW let me get off the menu and tell you about the program.

Young at Heart

About 50 ‘Young at Heart’ guests attended, many of whom were new visitors to the church. After a very brief introduction to the new Pastor Zac and his wife Amelia, the entertainment began which was BINGO (the BELOVED Game for Seniors). Oh yes, and there were GREAT prizes for the winners.

Mingling and chatting with the Seniors, Pastor Zac and his wife Amelia shared a brief history of himself and some of the future plans for CrossRoads Community Church. Pastor Zac has been in the Ministry for a couple of decades. Having the desire to lead and inspire others, he said “he is dedicated to preaching in a tangible and relatable way.” Being a former Georgia Southern student, he and his wife Amelia and their two young sons are excited to be back in Statesboro.

Upon returning, he said they are "deeply committed to spreading the word in this wonderful community. Statesboro has always held a special place in our hearts.” He continued to say, “The goal for CrossRoads is to be a Community Driven Church, develop people to be Leaders, and be a Benefit to the community with a positive impact.”

CrossRoads Community Church is definitely a generous and welcoming church. I can tell you I ENJOYED myself immensely and felt ‘like I was at home again.’
