Jorge Gonzalez, assistant coach for Tormenta Football Club, has accepted a position as an U19 assistant coach/performance coach for Columbus Crew’s second team in Ohio. Gonzalez spoke with Grice Connect’s Jeneane Brown to reflect on his Tormenta journey and talk about what lies ahead for one of Statesboro’s favorite coaches. His last day with Tormenta will be Saturday.

Statesboro's newest Parker's kitchen located at 141 Lanier Drive across from Paulson Stadium is now open. Greg Parker, founder and CEO of Parker's was in Statesboro to cut the ribbon.

The EG.5 variant of the virus is the dominant strain now circulating in Georgia, followed closely by several other strains that derive from the omicron variant. However, the BA.2.86 variant – which has been the subjects of a lot of news coverage – has yet to appear in Georgia.

Koenig led the way in the tournament with a 219 (+3) to finish tied for 27th. Jones shot a 221 (+5) in his collegiate debut to finished tied for 33rd while newcomer Reece Coleman (222) and Brantley Baker (223) also finished in the top 50.

The deadline to register for this year's drop-in event is September 19 at 11:59 p.m.

The 34th Annual Brooklet Peanut Festival will take place on Saturday, September 16th. The festival is an all-day, FREE event that begins with a parade followed by food and festivities offered throughout the day. Various peanut varieties, tractor races, and new vendors are expected to be a few highlights for this year.
