Georgia State Transportation Board (STB) Chair Ann R. Purcell was recently honored as one of Engineering Georgia magazine’s “100 Influential Women in Georgia Engineering." The annual list celebrates the impactful contributions of women leaders across the industry in Georgia.
Purcell, a native of Rincon, represents Congressional District 1 in southeast Georgia, which includes Appling, Bacon, Brantley, Bryan, Camden, Charlton, Chatham, parts of Effingham, Glynn, Liberty, Long, McIntosh, Pierce, Ware and Wayne Counties. Purcell was elected to the STB in 2013 and previously served as vice chair and secretary.
She is a community and civic leader who served 18 years in the Georgia House of Representatives, where she chaired the Public Safety and Homeland Security Committee, as well as serving on numerous other committees. She is a tireless advocate for her district, and her efforts have been recognized both locally and statewide. She is a graduate of Georgia Southern College.
For the eighth consecutive year, Engineering Georgia magazine has included the members of the STB and Georgia DOT in this annual listing recognizing the contributions and influence of the most notable women in Georgia engineering. Georgia DOT is well-represented on the 2025 list which features five STB members and five Georgia DOT team members.
The State Transportation Board is comprised of 14 members, each representing one of Georgia’s congressional districts. Board members are elected by a majority of a General Assembly caucus from their respective congressional district. Board members serve staggered five-year terms and guide the planning, development, and management of the department including critical transportation projects in the state of Georgia.
Georgia DOT aims to deliver a transportation system focused on innovation, safety, sustainability, and mobility. The department takes pride in its diverse and well-trained workforce and is proud to recognize the achievements of these women.
