Bulloch Retired Educators elect new officers, honor the memory of Janie Hill and Coach Clark Collins

The Bulloch Retired Educators Association held its annual memorial service Tuesday, honoring the lives and legacies of Janie Hill and Coach Clark Collins—two longtime members and devoted educators. The group also elected its officers for the 2025–2026 year during the meeting at Pittman Park United Methodist Church.

Members of the Bulloch Retired Educators Association (BREA) gathered Tuesday not only to look toward the future of education, but also to reflect on the legacies left by two dedicated educators: Janie Hill and Coach Clark Collins. Both were remembered during the organization’s annual memorial service held at Pittman Park United Methodist Church.

With music from Felicia Prince setting the tone, members paused to reflect on the lives and contributions of Hill and Collins, who passed away in the last year.

Johnny Tremble shared memories of Janie Hill, who spent her career as an elementary school teacher in Screven County before retiring and continuing to serve as a substitute in Bulloch County for over a decade. “She was very dedicated not only to her students, but to her church and this association,” he said. “She was a friend to many of us.”

Coach Clark Collins, known affectionately as “Cap,” was remembered by Sarah Hines for his unwavering commitment to Statesboro High School, where he spent his entire teaching and coaching career. A proud Marine and devoted family man, Collins turned down offers for higher-paying jobs and leadership roles to remain in Bulloch County, where he believed his presence could make the greatest difference.

“He loved his country, his family, and this community. Clark didn’t just teach or coach—he helped shape young men into better people.”

Both Hill and Collins were active members of BREA, and their names will be added to the organization’s memorial plaque displayed at the Statesboro Regional Library. The plaque honors members dating back to 1994 and includes only those who maintained active membership in both the local and state-level Georgia Retired Educators Association.

A closing prayer asked for strength and guidance for today’s teachers and for the young people entering the profession. “We are thankful for everyone who chooses to lead, who chooses to teach, and who chooses to care,” the prayer concluded.

The memorial served as a touching reminder of the deep impact that local educators continue to have, both in the classroom and in the community, long after their retirement.

The association also elected its 2025–2026 officers during the luncheon. Wilhemina Walker was named President, with Dr. Gail Dismuke serving as Vice President and President-Elect. Alison Goggans was named Secretary, Johnny Tremble as Treasurer, and Pam Bland as Past President.
