The City of Statesboro, Town of Register, and City of Brooklet will elect municipal positions on November 7. Incumbents in the Town of Portal drew no opposition. The City of Brooklet will also vote on a Package Sale Referendum. EARLY VOTING begins Monday, October 16. See the article for early voting times and locations, along with a sample ballot.

The Bulloch County Commission met for its regular meeting on Tuesday evening, October 3. The Commission recognized the upcoming Red Ribbon Week, and several zoning requests were approved. Public comments were at times heated, addressing issues such as new wells in the county and the recent property tax increase. Brad Deal provided an update on the intersection of 119 and Mud Road.

The Statesboro City Council discussed multiple matters at their regular bi-monthly meting on Tuesday morning, October 3, 2023. Among those matters were talks of a coordinated push to help recruit police officers, an update on the Johnson/Spruce Street shooting investigation, public transit, and available CARES Act funds.

History was made in Bulloch County as Chief Superior Court Judge Gates Peed swore in the County's first African American Judge, Karen Riggs Jones as Chief Magistrate Judge.

Members of the public are invited to attend and share their ideas and requests for the future of transportation in Bulloch County. The open house will include a presentation on the scope of the project and a public input session. Anyone unable to attend the meeting is encouraged to share their input by completing the Long Range Transportation Plan Survey online at www.statesboroga.gov/ltrp.

Less than 10 citizens attended the tax hearings on Tuesday. No city property owner spoke at either hearing. The final hearing will be held during the City Council meeting on September 19th.
