Lt. Gov Jones appoints Senator Billy Hickman Vice Chair of Economic Development and Tourism

Atlanta - Senator Billy Hickman of Statesboro was appointed on Tuesday, January 9, 2024 by Lt. Governor Burt Jones to serve as Vice Chairman of the Georgia Senate Committee on Economic Development and Tourism.  Senator Hickman has previously served as a member of this committee.

The Committee on Economic Development has general jurisdiction over economic development, business, trade, and any proposed measures that will affect the presence of tourism throughout the state.

“I am honored to be given the opportunity to serve as Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Economic Development and Tourism.  I want to thank Lt. Governor Burt Jones as well the Senate Committee on Assignments,” said Senator Billy Hickman.  "Economic Development and Tourism is something I am passionate about and I am looking forward to working alongside my fellow committee members to pass meaningful legislation." 

In addition to serving as Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Economic Development and Tourism,  Senator Hickman will continue to serve as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Higher Education, Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Sub-Committee on Education and Higher Education and Secretary of the Senate Committee on Finance.

The Committee on Higher Education has general jurisdiction over issues related to the University System of Georgia, the Technical College System of Georgia, other post-secondary institutions, and student financial aid.

The Senator Appropriations Sub-Committe on Education and Higher Education is responsible for assisting the Appropriations Committee in developing the state's budget with specific appropriations to the various government agencies, departments, and organizations on an annual basis.

The Committee on Finance has general jurisdiction over the state's taxing authority and revenue collections. It also deals with the financial services industry, including the securities and housing industries.

Senator Hickman represents the 4th Senatorial District of Georgia which includes Bulloch, Candler, Evans and Effingham Counties.
