A tragic two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Highway 46 and Nevils-Denmark Road on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, has resulted in the death of a local mother and left her teenage daughter in critical condition.
Bulloch County 911 received the initial call at 5:18 PM, dispatching Bulloch County EMS, Bulloch County Fire, Sheriff's Deputies, and Georgia State Patrol troopers to the scene. Due to the severity of the crash, the first responders on site requested additional units and Lifestar medical helicopters.
According to a preliminary report from the Georgia State Patrol, a westbound tractor-trailer on Highway 46 failed to stop at a stop sign, despite the recent addition of advance warning rumble strips. The truck collided with a Honda Odyssey van that was traveling southbound on Nevils-Denmark Road.
The impact struck the driver's side of the van, forcing it off the roadway. The female driver, identified by Bulloch County Coroner Chuck Francis as a mother from the Nevils community, was transported to East Georgia Regional Medical Center where she was pronounced deceased. Her teenage daughter, who was a passenger in the van, sustained critical injuries and was airlifted to Memorial Hospital in Savannah. The driver of the tractor-trailer was uninjured in the crash.
The Georgia State Patrol's Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team (SCRT) was called to the scene to conduct a thorough investigation, and the intersection remained closed to traffic for several hours. The crash is being investigated by Trooper First Class Matt Davis and Trooper Daniel Gay.
Coroner Francis is withholding the name of the deceased pending notification of all family members.
Our deepest condolences go out to the families, friends, and the entire Nevils community affected by this heartbreaking incident.
