Bulloch Board of Education approves FY '26 tentative budget; final budget vote scheduled for June 26

At its May 29 work session, the Bulloch County Board of Education unanimously approved the superintendent’s recommended tentative budget for Fiscal Year 2026, continuing its investment in premier learning environments ahead of a final vote set for June 26.

At its May 29 work session, the Bulloch County Board of Education voted unanimously to approve the superintendent's recommended Fiscal Year 2026 Tentative Budget.
 
The approved tentative budget shows that the district remains focused on investing in premier learning environments for students. The Board is scheduled to vote on a final adoption of the budget at its Thursday, June 26, work session, which will be held at 6:30 p.m., in the boardroom of the school district's Central Office, located at 150 Williams Road, in Statesboro.

The Board's portion of the budget planning process began on March 27, and over the course of five budget meetings it discussed revenues and expenditures for the school district's five primary funds: General Fund, Capital Projects Fund, Special Revenue Fund, School Nutrition Fund, and Debt Service Fund.
 
The General Fund, the district's primary operating fund, is budgeted to have total revenues of $147,104,239, with 58.8% coming from state revenues, 38.9% from local taxes, and 2.3% from other local sources.
 
The General Fund's total expenditures are budgeted to be $159,695,734, with 87.1% allotted for employee salaries and benefits and 12.5% for department budgets. The Board plans to utilize the district's available reserve funds to balance the budget's $12,591,495 difference in expenses over revenues.

Bulloch County Schools 2026 fiscal year begins July 1. The Board of Education works with the superintendent and district leadership to annually adopt an operating budget by June 30. The Bulloch County Board of Education's financial statements of the governmental activities and each major fund of the school district are independently audited annually by the Georgia Department of Audits and Accounts.
 
The most recent report for the year ended June 30, 2024, was released on March 18, 2025, with no financial or federal findings reported. The school district's budgets and audit reports are available on its website at bullochschools.org/budget.
