Larry Mays is now Vice President for College Advancement at Ogeechee Tech, following the retirement of Michelle Davis. OTC President Lori Durden says Mays’s experience in fundraising will be a valuable asset to the Ogeechee Tech Foundation.

The Georgia Southern University String Camerata has received a grant of nearly $55,000 from the Halle Foundation to support the ensemble’s educational tour of Germany. During this tour, Georgia Southern string players will experience German composers, music history and music culture in an authentic manner that players do not get in a typical home setting.

Georgia Southern University recently recognized approximately 2,350 students for excellence in academics on the Fall 2023 President's List. To be eligible for the President's List, a student must have at least a 4.0 grade point average and carry a minimum of 12 hours for the semester.

The summit's goals were to update business, industry, and community partners about the continued progress that has been made toward accomplishing the goals of the Bulloch County Career Workforce Development Plan and to celebrate successes within Bulloch County Schools' career pathway programs. Exciting things are on the horizon for CTAE and work-based learning in Bulloch County!

The President's List for students from Bulloch County attending colleges outside of Statesboro has been assembled separately from GS. Congratulations to all President's List students!

The Brooklet Elementary School student news team had their own personal media day with the Savannah Bananas Baseball Team on Feb. 2, and Georgia Southern University Women's Basketball will welcome the young journalists on Wed. Feb. 7.

Georgia Southern University’s Institute for Health Logistics and Analytics (IHLA) and graduate student Joana Tome have received a $20,000 grant from the Network of the National Library of Medicine (NNLM) to educate and train students on all three campuses in natural disaster emergency preparedness and response. 

Eli Compton of Statesboro High School and his Honors and AP chemistry teacher, Ashley Thompson, are Bulloch County's top STARs for 2024! The winners were announced at the annual Bulloch County STAR Recognition Luncheon on January 31, 2024, at Forest Heights Country Club. Congratulations to all!

Computer Information Systems instructor Donny Collins received the 2024 Rick Perkins Award for Excellence in Technical Instruction at OTC's Spring Faculty & Staff Meeting and Awards Ceremony. He will move on to the regional competition in Tifton next month. Barry Dotson, Tom Elrod, Rachel Rigdon, and Christina Harrell were also honored at the ceremony.

This week, students in Bulloch County schools enjoyed locally sourced beef in their spaghetti thanks to the Bulloch County Schools Nutrition team and Hunter Cattle Co. Hunter's Kristan Fretwell and her family visited Stilson Elementary to enjoy the lunch with students.
