Women of Georgia Power host EmPOWER Her Day for Our Girls Rock Too

The event was held as part of the company's celebration of Women's History Month to share information, experiences, and encouragement with young women from Bulloch County.

Georgia Power hosted the EmPOWER Her Day for Our Girls Rock, Too! Inc. (OGRT), a nonprofit out of Bulloch County that advocates for and mentors young women ranging in age from five to eighteen, at the Savannah Operating Headquarters on April 3, 2023.

To celebrate Women’s History Month, several female leaders at Georgia Power highlighted various careers that are available within the company, shared what their experience has been like while working at Georgia Power, and lastly poured a word of encouragement into the young ladies to chase their dreams. Employees from diverse backgrounds and roles, including engineering, communications, and management participated.

GP Region Communication Specialist Tess Newton was one of the women who spoke to the girls.

"I grew up in Statesboro, and so having the opportunity to pour into an organization made up of young women from my own elementary and middle school was very special for me," Newton said. "Empowering the next generation to pursue their passions and educating them on potential career opportunities is a core value for us at Georgia Power. I hope this group felt inspired and encouraged that they can achieve anything they put their minds to."

The mission of Our Girls Rock Too!, Inc. (OGR2) is to encourage young ladies to become comfortable in their own skin and to love themselves through self-esteem/self-image building exercises. For more information visit www.ourgirlsrocktoo.org.
