The Statesboro Fire Department came together with the Statesboro Police Department this morning to remember the brave men and women who lost their lives on 9/11/2001. The ceremony is normally held at the local 911 memorial at Bulloch Memorial Gardens.
Due to COVID-19 crowd restrictions, the firefighters held a smaller ceremony at Station One on Grady Street. They hope to return to a larger ceremony next year at Bulloch Memorial Gardens.
Kathleen O’Connor, an administrative assistant at Statesboro Fire Department, shared her personal story of living in New York at the time of attack. She comes from a large FDNY family which included her dad, brothers, nephews and cousins, all of which were off duty on 9/11.
However, Kathleen’s cousin who was at work in the World Trade Center lost her life on 9/11.
Her brothers helped with the recovery efforts.
Cindy Hulsey of Bulloch Memorial Gardens provided refreshments for the event.
Special thanks to Sarah Sutton, Community Information Specialist for Statesboro Police Department for live streaming the ceremony this morning and allowing us to share the video for each of you to view.
