The Roosevelt Cone Scholarship Foundation will host a Community Non-Profit Expo on February 11, 2023, at the Holiday Inn from 8am-3pm. Co-founder of the foundation, Shelby Cone, is very excited to create an event to give an opportunity for familiar and newer non-profit organizations to increase exposure and bring awareness.

This expo will not only showcase The Roosevelt Cone Jr. Scholarship Foundation but also many more non-profits in our area. Currently scheduled to appear at the expo are Fostering Bulloch, Lift as You Grow, Safe Haven, Our Girls Rock Too, and others. This event will educate the community about the non-profit services that are available locally.

"I'm always amazed when I talk to people about what we do, they may have kinda heard about it and know we work with kids, but they are not very familiar with how we can benefit them or how other people can help benefit us and what we do."

It's all about great 'CHARACTER'

The Roosevelt Cone Jr. Scholarship Foundation is a non-profit organization co-founded by Roosevelt Cone Jr. Along with the foundation, they have a youth center, Roosevelt's Character Development Center, that teaches children in grades 3 through 5 all about character every day after school. All children are able to attend free through the scholarship foundation's donations and sponsors.

They also fund sporting equipment for children who are interested and can't afford tuition. This includes paying recreation department fees and buying cleats for football or art supplies for art classes, etc.

"We're firm believers that children need to be involved with extracurricular activities, regardless of what it is."

Keeping children involved in activities helps them with their social skills, gives them a hobby or an interest, and keeps them out of trouble. This after school program also has a mentoring program for young men once a week with their mentor, Mr. Roosevelt.

The center serves 16 children after school, and eight of the 16 children attend elementary school. With the expo, they're also looking to gain more children into the program.

"A lot of my parents are single moms that work two or three jobs, but their kids that come here have other siblings that are outside our age range. So, they're just looking for a place where they're safe and they're learning something and getting that one-on-one attention that they need."

They also have another business, R&S Packing and Moving, which helps fund the program.

The Community Non-Profit Expo will be a free event and open to the public. With all the vendors attending, there will be plenty of goodies given to the community from each table.
