The Access to Justice (A2J) Committee of Georgia Judicial Council in collaboration with the State Bar Pro Bono Resource Center and Georgia Justice Project is partnering with various Faith organizations to host expungement clinics in rural Georgia.
An expungement restricts from public records a person’s arrest, conviction or non-adjudication so that those records do not appear during criminal background investigations conducted as part of a job or other application process.
Expungement allows a person to be eligible for better employment, joining the military, enrolling into schools and housing.
Society also benefits from expungements in that increased employment grows public revenue, reduces recidivism, and improves public safety.
This four-part series of free legal services are open to Georgia residents who have charges that are eligible for expungement under existing Georgia law.
Attorneys assisting at the events will provide their services at no cost to those who participate.
