The Bulloch County Recreation and Parks Department not only has sports for the youth, but also several programs for the older community. One specific program is the 50 Plus program, which involves entertaining activities for adults ages 50 and over. The 50 Plus program includes classes from swim lessons to evening line dancing and activities such as bingo, chair yoga and more.
This Fall program began in August and will end in December. For each month, many senior adults register to participate in many activities that will enhance their minds and health.
Senior Adult programs' favorite class
Some senior citizens each desire to learn a few new tricks; and dancing is one of them. Evening Line Dancing is a way for most seniors to have fun while exercising. Dance instructor, Regina Days- Bryan, teaches all classes with enthusiasm and energy. When asked whether she has a background in dance, she responded that her career started when she played basketball and coached at Georgia Southern University and played basketball overseas also.
"I have a background in basketball," Days-Bryan said. "It's a fun workout that I don't have to really work hard at."
Days-Bryan mentions that the participants in this class are on many different levels, starting at two weeks to 20 years. The first part of class, she teaches the dance, and the second part of class, the participants jump in and apply the steps they learned.

Harriet Smith, Veteran Line Dancer and citizen, has come to the Monday line dancing class consistently for 20 plus years.
"Line dancing is excellent for your brain," Smith said. "You have to think about what you're doing, even if you know the dance, if you start to think about something else you'll mess up."
Smith attends the Thursday dance class also, which makes her experience fun to remember.

With Mrs. Smith's excitement for the class, she invited a fellow member of her church, Kaitlin Bryan, to attend. Bryan is a mass communications graduate from Georgia College and she invited her two friends, Lexie Anderson, communications and science disorders graduate from Georgia Southern University, and Mary Ansley Tate, a fashion merchandising junior at Georgia Southern University. Bryan and Anderson have attended line dance classes for two weeks, while Tate attended this class for the first time.
"I'm having a lot of fun," Tate said. "I'm just a really bad dancer, but they're all so sweet and encouraging. I'm having fun with it, though."

As you can see, you do not have to be 50 plus to participate in the evening line dancing classes. This class is open to all ages, but mostly catered to adults 50 and older.
The evening line dancing class is held at the Honey Bowen Building on Mondays and Tuesdays from 5 to 7 pm.
