Bede Mitchell is the Kiwanian of the Year, 2021-2022.

Bede Mitchell is the Kiwanian of the Year, 2021-2022. Mitchell who serves as Secretary of the club is responsible for ordering the awards. Christopher Wiggins, club president explained how it took a bit of trickery to not clue him in on being the recipient.

Bede Mitchell was chosen as the Kiwanian of the Year for his exceptional conduct and services to the community and club. The Kiwanian of the Year announcement was presented to Mitchell by Trish Tootle, incoming Kiwanis District 10 Lt. Governor.  The presentation was made on Thursday evening, February 23, 2023,  at the Kiwanis Club of Statesboro's 63rd Anniversary Party.  The party was held at the Kiwanis community building on the Kiwanis Ogeechee Fairgrounds.

"Mitchell is a true Kiwanian who has served for many years as a member of the club serving in all areas of leadership.  He is currently serving as Secretary for the club.  Mitchell is a man who came from a long legacy of service," said Trish Tootle,  "He is a lifetime member of Bulloch County Historical Society, a friend of the Henderson library, he serves on the board of the Boys and Girls Club of Statesboro, loves Kiwanis and we love and appreciate him."  

"This is a tremendous honor.  I am very proud and consider it a real privilege to join the past recipients of the Kiwanian of the Year award," said Bede Mitchell.  "I will do my best to continue to be deserving of this award."

In addition to Kiwanian of the year, awards were presented by Christopher Wiggins, Kiwanis Club of Statesboro President and Kiwanis District Lt. Governor Beth Upchurch for perfect attendance awards, the  Ruby K Award and Outstanding Kiwanian Award.  Below are the recipients of these awards.

Perfect Attendance Award - Presented by Kiwanis of Statesboro President Christopher Wiggins

This award is presented to members who have 12 months of attending all regular club meetings, or making up any missed regular meetings with attendance at a Board meeting, club committee meeting, International/District/Division conference, or an interclub.

Ruby K Award – presented by Kiwanis District Lt. Governor Beth Upchurch

This award is presented to a member who has sponsored five or more new club members over the course of one’s Kiwanis career. Pins are presented for every 5 new members.

Outstanding Kiwanians Award - presented by Kiwanis Lt. Governor Beth Upchurch. 

This award recognizes members who had perfect attendance for at least six months, sponsored a new club member during fiscal year, actively participated on a club committee, attended at least two interclubs during fiscal year, maintained good standing with club, Division, District, and International.
