WJMS Tennis competes at Coastal Empire tournament; Girls are region champs

The Lady Knights finished the season at 15-0 and have now won 35 matches in a row. The girls have won three Region championships in a row, and five of the last six. The boys' team finished their season at 11-4 and as the Region runner-up.

Richmond Hill hosted the Coastal Empire tennis tournament this past Friday afternoon. 

The WJMS girls came in as the number one seed and played the host in the semi-finals. Maxine Feltman played outstanding and won 8-0 at first singles to put the Lady Knights up 1-0. Nellie Watanabe and Morgan Freeman played great tennis at second doubles, as they won 8-0 to give the ladies a 2-0 lead. Oly Deckard and Morgan Freeman wrapped up the match with a decisive 8-2 win at first doubles to move the Lady Knights into the championship against SEB. Brynn Harrison was leading big at second singles when the match was pulled. 

WJMS and SEB have matched up in the previous two championships, and WJMS was out to make it three victories in a row. Maxine again played phenomenal tennis as she raced out to an 8-0 win to put the Lady Knights in front 1-0. Ivy Lacienski was right behind her with an 8-0 win at third singles, while Nellie and Morgan wrapped up the victory with an 8-0 win at second doubles.

The boys team came in as the number two seed and played Ebenezer in the semi finals. 

Max Hall and Chandler Collins played really well together to win 8-1 at first doubles to put the Knights up 1-0. Ebenezer had tied the match when Mason Salter and Rayan Patel won 8-2 at second doubles to put the Knights back in front 2-1. Ebenezer came back to tie it up at two before Jackson Hall got an 8-5 win at third singles to put the Knights in the championship. 

The Knights fell to undefeated Richmond Hill in the championship to finish their season at 11-4 and as the Region runner-up.
