The Sun Belt Conference unveiled the 2023-24 women's basketball conference slate today. The 18-game league slate begins on Thursday, Dec. 30 when the Eagles visit Texas State in San Marcos.
The slate also includes dates for the two games in the previously-announced MAC/Sun Belt Challenge. The Eagles will host Eastern Michigan on Nov. 11 at Hanner, then travel to a MAC opponent on Feb. 10. That matchup will be announced in January.
The Eagles will play six of eight league games in January at Hanner Fieldhouse, beginning with Troy on Thursday, Jan. 4, and following up with ULM on Saturday, Jan. 6. Appalachian State then plays the Eagles in Hanner on Thursday, Jan. 11, with Old Dominion visiting Statesboro on Saturday, Jan. 13.
The first conference road trip of the new year takes the Eagles to James Madison on Thursday, Jan. 18, then back to Appalachian State on Saturday, Jan. 20. The Eagles then wrap up January by hosting Georgia State on Wednesday, Jan. 24, and Marshall on Saturday, Jan. 27.
Georgia Southern begins February on the road at Coastal Carolina on Thursday, Feb. 1, then plays at Georgia State on Saturday, Feb. 3. The Eagles return home to host Southern Miss on Wednesday, Feb. 7, before traveling to the MAC/SBC Challenge opponent on the 10th.
The Eagles travel to Louisiana on Thursday, Feb. 15, and South Alabama on Saturday, Feb. 17, before wrapping up the home slate with a pair of doubleheaders with the men's team. Georgia Southern hosts James Madison on Thursday, Feb. 22, and Coastal Carolina on Saturday, Feb. 24. The final game of the regular season for the Eagles will be Friday, March 1, at Marshall.
The 2024 Sun Belt Conference Championships will take place on Tuesday, March 5 through Monday, March 11 at the Pensacola Bay Center in Pensacola, Fla. All 14 teams will advance to the tournament in 2022-23.
The non-conference schedule for the Eagles will be announced later this month.
Head Coach Anita Howard's squad went 21-10 at year ago and advanced to the postseason for the first time in more than 20 years, participating in the CBI. The Eagles return 10 players from last year's team, including two-time All-Sun Belt Conference honoree Terren Ward.
