Second-Half Surge Sends GS Men’s Basketball Past Arkansas State

Georgia Southern takes a 68-53 Sun Belt men's basketball win over Arkansas State Saturday afternoon in Hanner Fieldhouse. The Eagles travel to Marshall and Southern Miss next week in their final road trip of the regular season.

Andrei Savrasov tallied his third straight double-double.

Andrei Savrasov scored a career-high 24 points and matched his career best with 12 rebounds to lead Georgia Southern to a 68-53 Sun Belt men's basketball win over Arkansas State Saturday afternoon in Hanner Fieldhouse.

Eagles of the Game
Savrasov made 9 of 13 from the field, including one 3-pointer, and all five of his shots from the charity stripe in collecting his seventh double-double of the season. Tyren Moore tallied 12 points, four boards and two steals, while Tai Strickland and Kamari Brown each scored six. 

Key Moments 
The Eagles (14-13, 7-7) held Arkansas State without a field goal for the first 6:32 of the second half, forcing the Red Wolves to 0 for 6 from the field with four turnovers. Meanwhile, seven different Eagles scored at the other end, including triples by Savrasov, Moore and Nate Brafford, in a 16-1 run that opened a 48-25 cushion.

Arkansas State (10-16, 2-11) trimmed the margin to 15 points, but Moore answered with a 3-pointer and Savrasov scored five points to push the lead to 61-40 with 5:28 remaining.

- It was Savrasov's fourth straight game with double-figure rebounds and his third consecutive double-double.
- The last Eagle with a double-double in three straight games was Matthew Fields in 2008. 
- The Eagles held the Red Wolves to 35 percent shooting in the game and forced 15 turnovers.
- GS posted an 18-6 edge in points off of turnovers and a 14-6 advantage in fastbreak points.
- It was the first time Arkansas State has played in Hanner since March of 2020.

The Eagles travel to Marshall and Southern Miss next week in their final road trip of the regular season.
