Portal High School Class of 2023's Cole Shuman committed to play baseball South Georgia State College last week during a ceremony at Portal High School.
Cole's baseball journey began playing travel ball at age 10 with Around The Horn Baseball. He played with Around the Horn until age 14. During this time, Around the Horn won the 10u Georgia state championship. In 2022, Cole played with coach Mike Robins during the summer and fall. This is his 4th year playing varsity baseball at Portal High School.
A large number of family, friends, classmates, and members of the community came out to support Cole and his family during the signing.
After the signing, Portal High had a double header. Cole threw 60 pitches in 4 innings and was 2/3 at the plate in the first game (won 23-3) and 2/4 in the second game, with his 2 hits being back to back home runs. Cole said it was the best day of baseball he has had and a day he will never forget.
"I am blessed and looking forward to be able to continue my education and baseball career with South Georgia State College," said Cole Shuman.
Cole is the son of Amy and Jody Shuman.
