STATESBORO - Georgia Southern sophomore Ninon Martinache has been named the Sun Belt Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week, announced today by league officials.

Martinache went a perfect 3-0 in singles last week for Georgia Southern, extending her current singles win streak to 10. She defeated Coastal Carolina's Anna Babayan, 6-2, 6-4, on March 25 in the Eagles' 4-3 win over the Chanticleers, then moved up to the No. 1 singles position and defeated Alyssa Richter of Southern Miss, 7-5, 6-1, as well as Tereza Dejnozkova of South Alabama, 6-4, 6-1, on the weekend. The Dunkirk, France, native also paired with Sonja Keranen to go 2-1 in doubles action at No. 1 doubles for the Eagles.

This is the first weekly honor for Martinache, who is 15-1 this dual match season in singles play and 11-3 in doubles. It is only the third time in program history that an Eagle has earned Sun Belt Women's Tennis Player of the Week honors, joining teammate Nanaka Kijima (March 1, 2023) and Nadja Meier (Feb. 12, 2020 & March 31, 2021).

Martinache and the Eagles return to action on Friday, hosting Arkansas State in a 1 p.m. Sun Belt matchup at the Wallis Tennis Center as a part of Alumni Weekend for the Eagles.
