It's officially basketball season at the Swamp, and Bulloch Academy seems ready to let the Gators out. Tuesday night, the Bulloch Academy Gators took on the Savannah Country Day Hornets in the first home game of the season. The Gators split wins with the Hornets with the girls team winning 55-42, while the boys losing 73-35.

The Lady Gators are picking up where they left off.  Last season, they finished 21-7 overall and 8-0 in the region. That had them ranked number one in their region going into the playoffs and number two overall in the state for the GIAA Class 4A standings.

They didn’t seem to miss a beat Tuesday night. The Lady Gators won the tip-off and were the first to score by an easy take to the goal by senior, PF and SG, Ashantay Noble. Noble had her first official double double of the season with 20 points and 10 rebounds.

Tuesday night’s win was a team effort. Ashantay Noble had 20 points, and point guard Kaley Cardell added 14 points. Rylie Ann Claxton, Zariah Major, Emme Powell, Brylie Ray and Emery Lynn Davis added a couple points of their own.

Head coach, Chandler Dennard, was happy with the overall performance from his team, and looking forward to this upcoming season.

The Bulloch Academy boys varsity team unfortunately fell short in their first game of the season to Savannah Country Day School. They are in a tough region, and with only two practices under their belt after a taxing football season, they seem to be a little rusty.

SCDS were all gas and no brakes with senior PG and SF, Robert Spaulding IV, with 17 points on the night.  Many of their players were in the double digits.

Defensively, the Gators couldn’t seem to get a stop. With many of SCDS post players being over 6 foot, BA was not getting any easy baskets in the paint without having bruises and battle scars to prove it.

Bulloch Academy’s Keyonte Mayner, led the way Tuesday night with 10 points, followed by Junior PG, Jackson Sheppard with eight and Junior G, Shemar Jenkins with 5 of their own.

Both varsity teams will be back in action this Friday, December 1, 2023 facing Mount de Sales Academy in Macon.  The girls will play at 6 p.m. and the boys will play at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for both games will be availabe via GoFan.
