On Saturday, September 23, kids' fishing events and adventure days will take place across the state. In addition, a FREE fishing day is offered to all Georgia residents on this day. Residents will NOT need a fishing license or a trout license to fish on any public waters in the state including lakes, streams, ponds, and public fishing areas.    

Presented by Queensborough Bank, the Tortoise and the Hare 5K run/walk this Saturday in Sylvania will benefit the Screven County Community Collaborative and Soup Kitchen.

Over the 19 years it has held this annual event, the USG Foundation has awarded more than $15 million to support student scholarships. Dr. Beulah Narendrapurapu of Georgia Southern University was also honored at the event.

On Saturday, September 23rd, Statesboro’s Downtown Rotary Club will host an unveiling ceremony of Statesboro's first Peace Pole. The Peace Pole ceremony will begin at 10am on the boardwalk area behind the Statesboro Farmers Market. All locals are invited to attend the ceremony to celebrate in the permanent display symbolizing the hope and call for world peace.

Non-profit organization Promise 686 is introducing CarePortal, a revolutionary support network for people in need, to Bulloch County. Through CarePortal, DFCS, Choices of the Heart, and Foundations Resource Center are able to call on local churches to meet family needs. The launch party will welcome this critical resource to our community.

The start time for Portal's varsity football road game at Wilkinson County this Friday has been moved to 6:00pm.

The PTRC is part of a nationwide network of 84 public, state and academic libraries designated by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) to support the public with trademark and patent assistance. Georgia Southern Libraries is one of two designated PTRCs in Georgia. Grand opening events take place Sept. 27 in Savannah and Sept. 28 in Statesboro.

Members of the public are invited to attend and share their ideas and requests for the future of transportation in Bulloch County. The open house will include a presentation on the scope of the project and a public input session. Anyone unable to attend the meeting is encouraged to share their input by completing the Long Range Transportation Plan Survey online at www.statesboroga.gov/ltrp.
